Heart of Maui Team

Bobby Moy and Christina Sports met in Santa Barbara in 2005 while working in the wine industry. Not only do they share a passion for wine and have worked in various aspects of the wine industry since that time, both of their families have deep ties to Hawaii, making this collaboration even more meaningful. Bobby’s family roots go back to 1850 on Oahu, and Christina’s maternal family roots go back to the 1890’s on Kauai and Oahu.

Christina lived in the Heart of Lāhainā, right behind the fabled Banyan Tree, at 646 Luakini St. until the fire swept through town and destroyed not only her home but also her nearly-opened wine shop on Front Street, Abaluche Wine & Provisions. Prior to her Maui life, she lived and worked in the California wine industry as a sommelier and winemaker, from Santa Barbara to Napa Valley and beyond. Her fierce love for her town of Lāhainā and the extended ‘Ohana she gained by becoming involved with the local community and working in the hospitality industry (who managed to come back to life even after COVID) has given her resolve to do something for the hospitality industry of Maui. Her hope is that people will embrace this wine project as a symbol of hope and resilience, encouraging people to come together again in the spirit of Abaluche to create new cherished memories while helping those affected.

This project is very close to my heart. My wife grew up in Oahu. Much of my family is Hawaiian and live across the islands. And it hurts to be so far away and feel like I can’t help on the ground. Making this wine and partnering with Abaluche and Kokua will have the most immediate impact for the victims. I can’t think of anything more helpful that I can do personally.

If you want to know a bit about me, well, I spend most of my time in the Napa Valley, living in Calistoga . I started my winery eight years ago and make wine for thirteen different brands. I spend my time with my amazing wife, Tiana, our four year old son, Keo, and our Australian Shepard, Cricket. However, in the pursuit of my own balance and happiness, I am often far astray from Napa Valley exploring the wilderness in search for remote places to fly-fish, backpack, and camp under the stars.

I really hope you all find in your heart to give back to the people of Maui by purchasing some wine from us. I have minimized our costs to maximize how much we can give back. Please buy as much as you can! The wine is truly delicious!
